The Department runs the Critical Care Unit and accepts admissions from all the other associated acute specialties in consultation with the on-duty Critical Care Consultant. The team is responsible for the pre-operative assessment unit and provides cover for ECT and X-ray lists, as well as running the acute and chronic pain services. The Department constitute a pivotal component of the trauma team and provide resuscitation services in emergency situations throughout the hospital. It has been the ethos of the department to be progressive and to provide state of the art anaesthetic and ICU services for our patients.
The Department has the highest quality anaesthetics machines, ventilators and monitors available, including Cardiac Output monitoring in all areas. They have a variety of ultrasound machines, with significant interest in regional anaesthesia within the department. There are new blood gas analysers in theatre and ICU as well as a ROTEM machine. They are provide a comprehensive vascular access service and support the efficient delivery of both elective and emergency anaesthesia as well as significantly enhancing the ability to provide high quality training.

The respiratory team is based on two wards. The first ward is a 28 bedded respiratory ward, while the other is a 15 bedded respiratory high care unit. Three out of five respiratory consultants have inpatient responsibilities. Currently, three consultants work as one team, and the other two work as another, each consultant rotating on and off the wards every 2 months. Two other consultants have inpatient responsibilities as acute physicians on the acute medical team. Some of the chest physicians are may take up sessions with the acute team.
The Respiratory Medicine Department outpatient services include Asthma, ILD, Lung Function, Outreach Clinics, Outpatient IV Antibiotic Service & Pulmonary Rehabilitation. The department has also has sleep service, supported by a new 15 bedded respiratory high care and NIV unit which opened a year ago. This unit is situated adjacent to the intensive care department and provides care for patients needing acute NIV, acute CPAP, domiciliary NIV, and high flow oxygen.
The post holder is expected to deliver a consultant-led respiratory service at Wrexham Maelor Hospital for the diagnosis and management of both outpatients and inpatients. The post holder is expected to work within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and managers to further develop local respiratory services, with focus on thoracic oncology and interventional pulmonology, or domiciliary NIV and sleep medicine.

The Community Mental Health team comprises: Operational team managers, Service manager, CPNs, STR Workers, Non-medical prescriber, psychological therapists, and admin staff.
The community mental health team accept referrals from varies agencies including General practitioners, IAPT services, secondary and tertiary agencies. The current caseload is approx. 650 with a referral rate of approximately 4-6 patients per day. Inpatient services are provided in a new purpose-built 40-bedded unit four miles from the team base. A dedicated inpatient consultant psychiatrist and related team provide care for inpatients. The team is also supported by a CRHT service, which deals with all crisis referrals from 9am to 9pm with an on-call service thereafter.
The post holder will have access to dedicated admin with a ratio of 3:1, with consultants also having full access to a secretarial pool for all preparation of letters and reports etc. The post holder is expected to manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trust’s personnel policies and procedures. The post holder needs to ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.

WHAT IS THE DEPARTMENT & TEAM LIKE?
It is a truly exciting time to be joining the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service as they are moving towards a county-wide service with clinics at localities. The department provides an assessment and treatment service for young people from the age of 0 – 18 years. The service has an expanded primary mental health staff and has recently been funded to start the Trailblazers project within schools and to support existing clinical services. The average number of sessions for treatment completion and discharge is between 8 and 10
CAMHS is committed to the THRIVE Framework which provides a set of principles for creating coherent and resource-efficient communities of mental health and wellbeing support for children, young people and families. The Framework is needs-led. This means that mental health needs are defined by children, young people and families alongside professionals through shared decision making. Needs are not based on severity, diagnosis or health care pathways.
The post holder will be expected to maintain the close working relationships with community paediatricians. Regular liaison meetings occur which facilitate coordinated input to co- morbid and complex cases. The post holder will an opportunity to develop a special interest and responsibility in a number of keys clinical area including Paediatric Liaison, Neurodevelopment Disorders, Intellectual Disability, Understanding and Planning Clinic (Complex presentations).

The area is a rural county in South West England with an approximate population of 637,070. The age profile of the area is equivalent to national averages for children, working age and elderly populations. There are 134,546 under 18’s.
The population enjoys a good standard of living and health with higher than average levels of life expectancy when compared to other areas of the south west and the rest of the UK. The county maintains a number of Grammar schools which persistently produce excellent exam results.
Nature lovers have contrasting options, form the honeycomb market towns and hills of the Cotswolds, to the cycle paths and mine works of the ancient Forest of Dean with its wild boars.
